On March, 25th, 1911, a fire in the started in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, NYC. ‘Because the owners had locked the doors to the stairwells and exits – a then-common practice to prevent workers from taking unauthorized breaks and to reduce theft’ – 123 women workers could not escape. This historical tragic event is commonly associated to the International Women’s Day.
Looking at recent events – e.g. The factory collapsed on April 24th, 2013 in Bangladesh – present working conditions in textile factories not that different from those ones existing 100 years ago.
